IGP

EASTERN RANGE, DAVANGERE

Eastern Range comprising the districts of Chitradurga, Bellary and Shimoga was constituted in the year 1980 with headquarters at Davangere. Sri. R.S. Chopra, IPS, DIGP was the first officer to head this Range. He served in Eastern Range, Davangere from 05.11.1980 to 20.06.1983. Since then the following IPS officers have served as DIGsP in this Range.

The constitution of new district Davangere took place in the year 1997. The post f the Range DIGP was upgraded to the rank of IGP in the year 1998. The IGPs served in this range are:

Sri. G.M. Hayath	23.11.2001 to 07.07.2005
Sri.M.F. Pasha	07.07.2005 to 04.07.2007
Sri. H.N.S. Rao	04.07.2007 to 23.03.2011

THE MAIN CHALLENGES IN THE EASTERN RANGE ARE:

1) Maintenance of law and order in the communally sensitive districts of Davangere and Shimoga.

2) Maintenance of law and order in the faction-ridden Bellary district.

3) Fighting against naxal activities in parts of Shimoga and Chitradurga districts.
